The Majilis has adopted amendments banning LGBT propaganda in Kazakhstan. This was announced by MP Irina Smirnova, Orda.kz reports.
According to Smirnova, the law does not impose restrictions on individuals with non-traditional sexual orientations. Smirnova says it is aimed at preventing the dissemination of content that allegedly shapes such views among children.
Everyone can embrace whatever they see fit in their lives, except pedophilia, of course. But we don't need this propaganda. You haven't seen it, but I've seen books in the library that promote LGBT matters, where a prince falls in love with another prince, two boys — there's plenty of that. There are cartoons that are allowed to be shown, there are magazines and comics that actually promote all of this,
Smirnova said on the sidelines of the Majilis.
She added that the state had been “late” in introducing regulations and rejected claims that the new law was modeled after Russia’s legislation.
Why Russia's? Our laws are written by the deputies themselves and are used within the framework of their independent understanding of the topic,
Smirnova added in response to a journalist’s question.
As the parliamentarian explained, films and books featuring LGBT themes will receive special labeling, and the procedure for imposing restrictions will be determined by bylaws of the Ministry of Culture.
