Lukashenko Pardons 15 Before Elections

On January 24, Lukashenko signed a decree pardoning 15 prisoners, Orda reports, citing the Belarus Presidential Press Service.

Eight were convicted under "extremism" charges, and seven for drug trafficking.

His press service reported that 293 people have been pardoned by his decrees over the past year.

Belarus is holding presidential elections on Sunday, January 26. If Lukashenko emerges victorious, this would mark his seventh term.
