Photos and videos showing a mysterious red vehicle on the elevated LRT tracks in Astana have been making the rounds on social media, sparking curiosity and confusion. An Orda.kz journalist looked into what’s actually going on.
On April 3, residents of Astana shared images and clips of a red vehicle spotted on the LRT supports. The following day, another close-up video surfaced, leading many to believe they were seeing the debut of the long-awaited LRT vehicle. Its appearance turned out to be rather shabby, sparking outcry.
The press service of Astana’s public transport operator, CTS, clarified that the vehicle spotted on the tracks isn’t a passenger train at all.
It’s a shunting tractor being used for the construction of the LRT rail tracks,CTS stated.
They also assured the public that the actual LRT cars will arrive in Astana this fall — and they’ll look nothing like the one seen in the video.
The actual vehicles are currently being assembled at a factory in Tangshan, China.
As previously reported, the construction of all 18 LRT stations is scheduled to be completed in 2025.
