President Gitanas Nausėda has begun searching for a new candidate to lead the government after Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas and his entire cabinet officially resigned on August 4, Orda.kz reports.
Paluckas explained that he could no longer continue in his role due to growing pressure:
“I’m being criticized not for my work, but for my past. I have no intention of turning the coalition and government into hostages of these scandals.”
The crisis was sparked by investigations into Paluckas’ business dealings — including favorable loans and real estate transactions — which led to mounting scrutiny despite support from his party.
Pressure intensified following an ultimatum from President Nausėda.
Finance Minister Rimantas Šadžius has been appointed acting head of government. The president now has 15 days to nominate a new prime minister, who must then be approved by parliament.
