Lawyers Defend Kasymbayev, Challenge Credibility of Accuser

At a press conference on September 8, the lawyers of Khasan Kasymbayev said the case against him lacks evidence and is based solely on the testimony of the victim, Orda.kz reports.
Kasymbayev and his associates are on trial in the Talgar District Court, facing charges under several articles, including kidnapping, assault, and extortion.
The defense, however, is dissatisfied with how the case is proceeding, arguing that it relies only on the victims’ personal statements.
Khasan is being tried on a wave of resonance without any evidence. There is no evidence in the case, it was initiated solely on the basis of the testimony of the victim. There are facts of mass violations of criminal procedural legislation by the regional police department and the prosecutor's office, said lawyer Yerlan Mendeshov.
Representatives for the accused also questioned the credibility of the victim, Arman Alimov, noting his past record.
Arman Alimov, who is accusing Khasan, attacked a collector at the French House. He has also been punished for domestic violence more than once. In addition, he sold marijuana to young people in Talgar, activist Kuat Auganbek said.
Kasymbayev’s relatives and lawyers are calling on the media to cover the trial objectively.
Following the October 2024 tragedy at the Kamazhay store, where Sherzat Polat died, Kasymbayev’s name began to be linked to the so-called Khutor criminal group. He denies any connection, insisting that “his conscience is clear.” Kasymbayev was arrested in November last year, and the trial remains ongoing.
