Kyrgyzstan Tightens Religious Regulations with New Law

President Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan has signed new legislation regulating religious practices in the country, reports Orda.kz.

Under the new law, clothing that prevents "citizen identification" is banned in public spaces and government buildings. 

The only exception is for specialized work uniforms. Violations will result in a 20,000 som fine.

The legislation also prohibits religious rituals in nursing homes, disability care facilities, prisons, and military installations.

Additionally, the law introduces penalties for forcing others into religious activities and distributing religious literature.
