Kyrgyzstan Offers to Serve as Bridge for Tajik Products to EAEU Market
Kyrgyzstan has confirmed its willingness to function as a connecting link for delivering Tajik products to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) market, Orda reports, citing Kyrgyzstan's Cabinet of Ministers.
This was a key topic during the private meeting between Kyrgyzstan's Cabinet Chairman Adylbek Kasymaliev and Tajikistan's Prime Minister Kohir Rasulzoda during Kasymaliev's one-day working visit to Dushanbe.
The Kyrgyz delegation specifically expressed interest in learning from Tajikistan's agricultural processing expertise.
During their talks, Kasymaliev and Rasulzoda also:
- Outlined plans to increase bilateral trade to $500 million by 2030. The 2024 trade volume between the countries currently stands at just $1.7 million.
- Highlighted the importance of re-establishing direct flights between the countries, which were suspended following border disputes.
- Explored creating an Intergovernmental Council led by the Prime Ministers of both nations.
- Stressed the significance of the CASA-1000 project, which aims to integrate both countries' power grids and create new regional electricity export opportunities.
On March 4, 2025, reports surfaced that during the March 4 meeting in Dushanbe, "both sides emphasized the importance of resuming direct air connections between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan as a crucial factor for strengthening bilateral relations."
No additional details about this particular discussion point were provided.
