The State Committee for National Security (GKNB) of Kyrgyzstan announced it has detained members of a group allegedly preparing to incite mass unrest, reports Orda.kz.

The group planned to spark interethnic conflict by staging a provocation involving a half-dressed woman.

The GKNB stated that the suspects aimed to “organize local conflicts followed by mass protests and riots” in an attempt to destabilize the political situation and stage a coup. One of the group's leaders reportedly fled Kyrgyzstan and is believed to be hiding in the UAE.

The rest of the group has been detained.

According to the GKNB, the group intended to film a fake video featuring a “beaten, half-naked woman” who would claim foreigners had assaulted her:

The video was intended to touch on national patriotic feelings and provoke unorganized youth in the country, similar to events that occurred in May 2024. Then, specially trained combat groups armed with firearms were to start fights and riots in various parts of Bishkek, targeting places where foreigners live and work, the GKNB’s statement said.

The agency also claimed the group planned provocations targeting citizens and law enforcement officers, aiming to escalate tensions into full-scale unrest, create conditions for protests, and ultimately trigger a coup.
