Kyrgyzstan: Controversial Defamation Bill Adopted

The Kyrgyz Parliament has adopted a bill introducing fines for insults and defamation in the media and on the Internet in the third reading, Orda reports, citing Kaktus.media.
Stipulated fines:
- Individuals - 20 thousand soms ($230);
- Legal entities- 65 thousand soms ($747).
The bill's drafters initially proposed a fine of 100,000 soms ($1,150) for individuals and 200,000 soms (almost $2,300) for legal entities.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs will consider incidents related to defamation in the media and on the Internet.
