The Parliament's Constitutional Legislation Committee has approved an initiative to dissolve the legislature, Orda.kz reports. Experts attribute the move to electoral law reform.
According to MP Ulan Primov, holding parliamentary elections in 2025 instead of 2026 would help avoid political risks and ensure stability between branches of government.
He noted that 32 MPs have already signed in support of the proposal, as reported by 24.kg.
Primov emphasized that the decision, if taken, would be unprecedented:
"Organizing two consecutive election campaigns — parliamentary and presidential — will create an excessive burden on the system and could lead to errors and violations."
Following the discussion, committee members supported the proposal and forwarded the document to the Coordination Council for review. The Council will set a date for the meeting at which the final decision on voluntary dissolution will be made.
The initiative to dissolve the Jogorku Kenesh has been under debate since early September.
Experts link it to ongoing electoral law reforms and a restructuring of the political landscape. Political scientists believe the step is aimed at transitioning the country to a new power structure.
