KTZ Freight Transportation has purchased new protective clothing for staff in the Mangystau region following employee complaints and public scrutiny. The company confirmed that nearly 150 million tenge was spent on workwear procurement, Orda.kz reports.
The development follows an October video appeal from workers in the Beineu section of Mangystau, who claimed management brought in unidentified men to intimidate employees dissatisfied with the lack of proper workwear.
According to the workers, two unknown individuals were present during a meeting on safety gear and working conditions, allegedly threatening staff afterwards and urging them to “calm down.” Employees claimed this was not the first such incident.
KTZ responded by calling the dispute an internal matter, suggesting it stemmed from a misunderstanding between staff and regional management.
To address the situation, KTZ says its central office and the Main Line Directorate will send a working group to Mangystau to conduct an internal investigation. Workers, however, continue to demand that several managers be removed — though no dismissals or suspensions have been officially announced.
In a written response to Orda.kz, KTZ Freight Transportation confirmed the workwear purchase:
The procurement of special clothing for station workers in the Mangystau region was carried out through a single-source procurement by the Mangystau Branch of KTZ Freight Transportation LLP, GP. Contracts were concluded with Zhanarys LLP for a total of 144,546,080 tenge, including VAT, for the supply of 1,620 sets of suits for protection against low temperatures; and 1,231 sets of suits for protection against general industrial contamination and mechanical impacts.
KTZ noted that organizational measures may follow once the inspection is concluded.
