Khasan Kasymbayev has been sentenced to 12 years in prison, Orda.kz reports.
Investigators accused Kasymbayev and his associates of multiple crimes, including kidnapping, inflicting grievous bodily harm, and extortion.
Despite denying the claims, Kasymbayev has been rumored to be the leader of the “Khutor” organized crime group. These claims surfaced during the high-profile homicide trial of Sherzat Polat.
The first episode involves businessman Ayubzhan Tazhiyev, who in 2016 was allegedly lured into the street, assaulted, and forced to hand over 1 million tenge. The second case concerns MMA fighter Arman Alimov, who stated that in 2021, he was abducted and assaulted by Kasymbayev’s group.
Kasymbayev was tried alongside five co-defendants, all of whom maintained their innocence and claimed the case was fabricated.
