The hydraulic structures of the Kengir reservoir, which Kazakhmys controlled for many years, have once again become state property, Orda.kz reports.
The Ulytau Regional Prosecutor's Office highlighted the strategic importance of the facility for the region, so it contacted the Ministry of Water Resources to transfer it to the state.
A donation agreement was concluded, and an acceptance certificate was signed.
The reservoir, built in 1952 (319 million cubic meters) and its hydraulic structures are strategic objects, and therefore must be in state ownership. At one time, they were transferred to the balance sheet of the city-forming enterprise TOO 'Kazakhmys Distribution' the department commented.
The founder (stakeholder) of Kazakhmys Distribution LLP is the Dutch-registered company KCC BV.
According to open data, it is controlled by oligarchs Vladimir Kim and Eduard Ogai.
The authorities will now inspect the condition of the reservoir and its infrastructure to determine measures for modernization and further operation.
