The Territorial Election Commission (TEC) of Kaztalovsky district in West Kazakhstan has responded to earlier reporting about the dismissal of a precinct election commission following the July 13 Akim elections in the village of Kaztalovka, Orda.kz reports.
Previously, observers from the public organization Jariya had demanded the annulment of the vote results at precinct No. 222 and called for all commission members to be held accountable for alleged violations of electoral law.
In its statement, the TEC said that the decision to nullify the results at that polling station was made independently on election day, July 13, after irregularities were detected. According to the commission, 11 ballots were improperly collected, leading them to exclude the entire precinct’s results from the overall tally.
The commission also clarified that it does not have the authority to dismiss election workers. Instead, it submitted a recommendation to the local maslikhat (council), which is responsible for making such personnel decisions.
The TEC added that the lawsuits filed by observers had since been withdrawn after they were informed of the commission’s actions.
In Orda.kz’s previous report, Uralskaya Nedelya editor-in-chief Tamara Yeslyamova voiced her support for the observers, stating:
“What we need to make a national idea is universal honesty. If we are honest, we will have an honest government.”
