Kazakhstan's National Meteorological Service (Kazhydromet) has released its preliminary spring flood forecast for 2025, Orda.kz reports.
The agency analyzed long-term hydrological data, including precipitation accumulation, soil freezing depth, and soil moisture levels.
All regions have been categorized into three risk levels: high, medium, or low.
Elevated flood risks are expected in central, northern, eastern, and western regions, specifically in Abay, Aqmola, Aqtobe, East Kazakhstan, West Kazakhstan, Qaraganda, Qostanay, North Kazakhstan, and Ulytau regions.
The forecast is based on average flood arrival dates. Data will be updated depending on current weather conditions, Kazhydromet's press service explained.
The agency cautioned that this forecast is not final and will be adjusted based on weather conditions.
Meteorologists will provide more accurate weekly short-term forecasts once ice begins breaking up on Kazakhstan's rivers.
In preparation for spring floods, authorities in the Aqmola region have already begun constructing a six-kilometer dam.
