During King Abdullah II’s visit to Astana, Kazakhstan’s national company Kazatomprom signed an agreement with Jordan’s state-owned uranium mining company JUMCO. Kazakhstan will assist in implementing Jordan’s “Central Uranium Project,” Orda.kz reports.
Kazatomprom noted that the agreement so far only outlines the parties’ intentions and defines the basic principles of cooperation.
While public statements lacked detail, it is clear the national atomic company will support Jordanian colleagues in uranium field development — at least by sharing expertise, technologies, and know-how.
Thanks to the partnership with the world’s leading uranium producer, we gain the opportunity to develop Jordan’s uranium resources in line with advanced international practice,
said Khaled Toukan, Chairman of JUMCO’s Board of Directors.
Kazatomprom Chair Meirzhan Yusupov also emphasized that the partnership “is intended to combine Jordan’s unique resource base with Kazakhstan’s proven expertise in sustainable and efficient uranium production.”
Meanwhile, Kazatomprom’s profits have dropped sharply, and in 2026, the national company plans to cut production volumes.
