JSC NAC Kazatomprom has received the right to explore the Severnoye site of the Budenovskoye deposit in the Turkestan region. Large uranium deposits may be located there, Orda.kz reports.
Kazatomprom reports that the site is located in the Shu-Sarysu uranium province. The national company will conduct geological exploration for six years, which can be extended for another five years if necessary.
The Severnoye site has significant potential due to the presence of large uranium deposits. Its favorable geological conditions and proximity to existing deposits create unique opportunities for successful and long-term development, commented Kazatomprom Board Chair, Meirzhan Yusupov.
Preliminary estimates indicate that more than 100,000 tons of uranium may be found in the specified area.
If the estimates prove accurate, this will contribute to the country's energy security and will help strengthen Kazakhstan's position in the global nuclear energy market.
The company specifically emphasized that Kazatomprom is the exclusive owner of the right to use the subsoil in this area.
Meanwhile, environmental violations were discovered at the national company's enterprises in the Turkestan region. The regional ecology department and then representatives of Kazatomprom's subsidiary confirmed that sulfuric acid was dumped onto the soil at the mine of JSC SP Zarechnoye.
