Kazakhtelecom and AzerTelecom have begun marine surveys in the Caspian Sea to prepare for laying an undersea fiber-optic cable between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, Orda.kz reports.
The link is scheduled for completion by late 2026.
A specially equipped vessel from the port of Bautino will spend a month studying the seabed along the planned route from Aktau to Sumgait, examining depth, currents, soil composition, and hazards.

The data will define the cable’s design and final route. Kazakhtelecom Chair Bagdat Mussin said the project will deliver the first-ever undersea optical line in the Caspian, creating a “telecommunications bridge” between Asia and Europe with speeds up to 400 Tbps.
