Magzum Mirzagaliyev has been appointed as the new presidential adviser of Kazakhstan, replacing Bolat Akchulakov, dismissed by presidential decree, reports Orda.kz.
Prior to this appointment, Mirzagaliyev headed KazMunayGas, Kazakhstan's national oil and gas company, until May 2024.
His departure from KMG came amid the company's financial challenges and unresolved labor disputes with oil workers in the Mangystau region.
Mirzagaliyev brings extensive energy sector experience to his new role, having previously served as Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources and Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan.
