The Russian Embassy has reportedly requested Kazakhstan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs to assist in holding meetings between the Chief Executive Officer of the Rosatom Corporation, Alexey Likhachev, and the top officials of Kazakhstan - President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev and Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, Orda.kz reports.
Oil and gas industry analyst Oleg Chervinsky posted a photo of the alleged document with the request on Telegram. The text states that the Russian embassy would like to organize meetings "before the end of November" to discuss cooperation in the nuclear sphere.
The Russian side would be grateful to the Kazakh side for determining a possible date for the said contacts, taking into account the schedule of the leadership of the Republic of Kazakhstan (the preliminary proposal of the Russian side is October 28 or November 14),the document says.
The proposal for a meeting between the head of Rosatom and the President and Prime Minister of Kazakhstan is dated October 11. Three days before, Kazakhstan summed up the referendum results on constructing a nuclear power plant. Most Kazakhstanis who voted were in favor.
Orda.kz has contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan to confirm the document's authenticity.
Earlier, President Qasym-Jomart Tokayev noted that the nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan should be built by an international consortium, not by a single contractor.
