Agency representatives inspected several border checkpoints, Orda.kz reports.
According to Business.FM, long queues had formed at crossings between Kazakhstan and Russia as early as Friday, September 19. The affected checkpoints include:
- Jelkuar (Qostanay region) – Bugristoye (Chelyabinsk region)
- Jaisan (Aqtobe region) – Veseloyarsk (Altai region)
- Mamlyutka (North Kazakhstan region) – Petukhovo (Kurgan region)
On September 21, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport confirmed that specialists visiting the border had observed a buildup of vehicles — mostly trucks — waiting in the neutral zone to enter Russia.
The ministry explained the situation:
These circumstances are largely due to the tightening of control measures by the Russian Federation. Specifically, cargo screening procedures have been strengthened, vehicle inspection times have been extended, and additional measures have been introduced to verify documents and ensure compliance with sanitary and phytosanitary requirements.
In early July, similar jams were reported after Russia required foreigners from visa-free countries.
