Kazakhstan’s External Debt Estimated at $165.63 Billion

The National Bank of Kazakhstan has released a preliminary estimate of the country’s external debt as of January 1, 2025, Orda.kz reports.
Previously, external debt figures were published 90 days after the end of each reporting quarter. Now, a preliminary estimate will also be provided in addition to the official data.
According to the latest estimate, Kazakhstan’s external debt is $165.63 billion.
This includes $12.72 billion owed by government bodies, $2.47 billion owed by the National Bank of Kazakhstan, $13.27 billion owed by other banks, $91.66 billion in intercompany debt (direct investments), $45.51 billion owed by other sectors.
The official external debt report as of January 1, 2025, is scheduled for release on March 31, 2025.
External debt represents the outstanding financial obligations of residents to non-residents, requiring repayment of the principal and/or interest.
