Kazakhstanis Who Fought in Syria Sentenced

According to intelligence agencies, the convicted persons were members of terrorist groups in 2020-2022, Orda.kz reports.
As reported by the National Security Committee, two Kazakhstanis were detained in Syria during an international special operation in which foreign partners also participated.
The suspects were transported home and convicted.
One of them, a resident of the Turkestan region, was found guilty of participating in the activities of a terrorist group (under Article 257 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan). The second, a resident of the city of Atyrau, was convicted of committing a similar crime, as well as for undergoing terrorist training abroad (under Article 260 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan), the KNB reports.
The National Security Committee did not specify the length of the sentences.
