Kazakhstan’s Prosecutor General’s Office has warned citizens over an increase in provocative posts and comments on social media that could incite discord in society, Orda.kz reports.

The agency reminded that such actions may lead to both administrative and criminal liability.

Under Article 174 of Kazakhstan’s Criminal Code, violations can be punished by large fines or imprisonment for up to 20 years, depending on the severity of the offense.

Kazakhstan also bans the publication and distribution of illegal content on online platforms. If such posts do not contain signs of a criminal offense, they may still lead to a fine of 20 MCI, or 86,500 tenge.

The prosecutor’s office separately reminded citizens of liability for spreading false information. Depending on the circumstances, violators may face either administrative or criminal liability.

The agency emphasized that legal consequences may apply not only to the authors of posts, but also to those who knowingly participate in their distribution.

The Prosecutor General’s Office called on citizens not to give in to provocations, to carefully check the reliability of information, and to refrain from publishing materials or comments that may provoke conflicts or violate public harmony.
