In the first two months of 2025, Kazakhstan has seen a significant drop in its uranium export volumes. From January to February, the country exported volumes worth $72.5 million — a 78% decrease compared to the same period in 2024, Orda.kz reports.
The First Credit Bureau analyzed export data via its Telegram channel. While the drop is sharp, it does not represent a historic low. Notably, January–February 2024 saw the highest uranium export figures in the past ten years.
Last year, all volumes in January-February fell to two countries: France and Russia. This year, the former reduced purchases by more than 60% in monetary terms, and uranium was not sent to the latter, while a year earlier, exports were estimated at 195.6 million dollars,
the First Credit Bureau stated.
Meanwhile, analysts highlighted that Kazatomprom recently announced plans to expand its export destinations and confirmed a new agreement to supply uranium to the Czech Republic.
