Kazakhstan now ranks first in unemployment among Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries and is the only member state where the jobless rate rose over the past year, Orda.kz reports, citing data from the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).
As of February 2025, there were 704,900 officially registered unemployed across the EAEU. 333,100 are in Kazakhstan — nearly half of the union’s total.
Here's how the other member countries compare:
- Russia – 283,000
- Kyrgyzstan – 48,400
- Armenia – 37,100
- Belarus – 3,300
While all other EAEU countries saw declines in unemployment over the past year, Kazakhstan's numbers rose. At the start of 2024, the country had 306,100 unemployed, meaning it saw an increase of 0.3%, while the EAEU as a whole recorded a 14.8% decrease.
Russia, which led in total unemployment in 2024 with over 406,000 job seekers, has since reduced its numbers significantly.
