Kazakhstan to Test Chinese Algae Technology for Land Restoration

Kazakhstan will work with Chinese specialists to explore the use of desert algae biotechnology to restore degraded land and combat desertification, Orda.kz reports.
The initiative was discussed during a meeting between Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Yerlan Nysanbayev and representatives of the Chinese company Ji Di Zao (Beijing) Biotechnology.
The two sides discussed how the technology could be used to restore soil, develop environmentally friendly agriculture and reduce the effects of desertification. Particular attention was paid to the results of experimental work on the dried seabed of the Aral Sea and the possibility of adapting the technology to Kazakhstan’s environmental conditions.
