Kazakhstan is further digitalizing air travel, introducing new services that will allow passengers to receive immediate refunds for canceled flights, Orda.kz reports.
Vice Minister of Transport Talgat Lastayev announced the initiative at a government meeting, highlighting the country’s ongoing digital transformation in aviation. Kazakhstan has already implemented electronic document management for cargo transportation through the "E-freight" system and an API/PNR system for collecting passenger data.
Airports in Kazakhstan have introduced the 'E-doc-airport' electronic identity system, enabling passengers to check in and board flights without paper documents. Currently in development are biometric passenger identification, route optimization to reduce flight time and fuel consumption, and digital insurance service for flight delays, Lastayev stated.
He explained that the new compensation system will be integrated into airline ticketing apps, allowing passengers to insure against delays and receive instant payouts in case of disruptions.
