Kazakhstan will receive 11 billion cubic meters of water from the Syr Darya by April 2025, Orda.kz reports, citing the press service of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation. This decision was made at a meeting in Ashgabat.

The head of the department, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, held talks with representatives of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Kyrgyzstan acted as an observer.

Per the plan, the required water volume will be delivered to the Shardara Reservoir by April 1, providing water for the 2025 irrigation season in the country's southern regions.

I would like to positively note the joint work carried out following the 86th meeting. In particular, agreements on water and energy cooperation with Kyrgyzstan were implemented, and measures were taken to coordinate the operating mode of the Bakhri-Tojik reservoir during the irrigation period of this year, notes Nurzhigitov.

The meeting participants also approved the operating schedules of reservoirs in the Syr Darya and Amu Darya basins, along with water supply allocation limits for the upcoming autumn-winter period for the Central Asian countries.

The commission's next meeting is scheduled for the first quarter of 2025 and will take place in Tajikistan, Dushanbe.

In early June, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan signed a cooperation agreement on constructing the Kambarata HPP-1, a Soviet-era project. The new hydroelectric power station will be built on the Naryn River in Kyrgyzstan.
