The Majilis has begun work on amendments to the country’s election law, Orda.kz reports.
The bill proposes several changes to the electoral process.
The main goal of the draft Constitutional Law is to prohibit the nomination of one candidate for deputy of the Majilis in more than one electoral district; to ban simultaneous nomination of the same person in single-mandate districts for the Maslikhat or Majilis; to establish an election fund for candidates for akim; to strengthen the requirement that candidates for president, deputy, akim, or member of the Central Election Commission have no criminal record for serious or especially serious crimes; and to regulate campaign issues. Majilis deputy Snezhanna Imasheva said during a plenary session.
The accompanying amendments also aim to improve election procedures and introduce administrative liability for violations of the rules.
