The Senate has approved the ratification of an agreement between Kazakhstan and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), Orda.kz reports.
The country will borrow 46.3 billion tenge to support digitalization efforts.
The IBRD loan will be used to implement the Accelerated Digitalization for an Inclusive Economy project. It aims to expand digital infrastructure in rural areas and ensure equal access to high-speed internet across the country.
The project is intended to reduce the “digital divide” and make modern electronic services more accessible to rural residents.
The loan is also expected to stimulate technology development, support small business growth in the regions, attract investment, and fund Kazakhstan’s initiatives to expand digital infrastructure in villages.
In addition, public-private partnerships will help further develop telecommunications infrastructure.
