Kazakhstan is still searching for an investor to finance the construction of the Yekibastuz State District Power Plant-3, Orda.kz reports.
Speaking at a government meeting, Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov outlined the country’s major energy projects. He confirmed that no state funds will be allocated for the Yekibastuz plant, which will instead be built through private investment.
A tender has already been held to select an investor for the construction of the Yekibastuz State District Power Plant No. 3, with a capacity of 2,640 MW. A tender is also planned for the construction of a 700 MW thermal power plant in the city of Kurchatov,
Akkenzhenov said.
The minister also discussed thermal power plant projects in Kokshetau, Semey, and Oskemen, which Kazakhstan recently decided to pursue without Russian participation.
“These projects will utilize advanced flue-gas filtration systems and heavy-metal capture technologies,” he added.
Samruq-Energo JSC is overseeing the construction of combined heat and power plants in the three cities.
