Kazakhstan and Russia have established a new electricity purchase agreement, finalized in late January.
Vice Minister of Energy Sungat Yesimkhanov provided details on the financial aspects of this arrangement, Orda.kz reports.
This is about 100 billion tenge, you could say, in volume. Let us give you a more precise figure. We predict a decrease in imports because we have introduced additional capacity. I think we will try to ensure that there are no more than two billion kilowatt-hours this year, Yesimkhanov stated while speaking in the Senate corridors.
The Vice Minister further explained that Kazakhstan plans to gradually reduce its reliance on Russian electricity imports in the coming years, with the possibility of complete independence from these imports by 2027.
