Kazakhstan Sees Net Migration Growth for Second Consecutive Year

In 2024, approximately 30,000 people moved to Kazakhstan for permanent residence, while around 13,000 people left the country, Orda.kz reports.
According to the Bureau of National Statistics, Kazakhstan has maintained a positive migration balance for the second year in a row. Compared to 2023, the number of new arrivals increased by 15.3%, while the number of people leaving the country dropped by 20.9%.
Kazakhstan’s largest migration exchange is with CIS countries, which account for over 80% of incoming migrants and nearly 75% of those leaving. Outside the CIS, most arrivals come from China, Mongolia, and Türkiye, while those leaving Kazakhstan most frequently move to Germany, Poland, and the United States.
Among Kazakhstan’s regions, Almaty (6,260 people), Almaty Region (4,788), and Mangystau Region (3,680) saw the highest number of incoming relocatees. Meanwhile, the highest number of people leaving the country came from North Kazakhstan (2,133), Qaraganda (1,588), and East Kazakhstan (1,195).
