Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport held a meeting with representatives of the National Welfare Fund Samruq-Qazyna and Kazakhstan Temir Joly to discuss growing grain shipments to Central Asia and the need for urgent steps to ease the strain on Uzbekistan’s infrastructure, Orda.kz reports.
The ministry noted that grain exports to Central Asian markets reached 5.6 million tons in the first 11 months of the year — a 32% increase compared to the same period last year. In November alone, more than 1.2 million tons were transported, with around 700,000 tons destined for regional countries.
The surge in shipments has put significant pressure on receiving terminals in Uzbekistan.
To develop practical solutions, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan agreed to hold joint consultations on December 8–9 in Saryagash and Tashkent. The talks will focus on schedules, routes, and cargo-handling procedures, taking into account Uzbekistan’s current capacity.
