Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev stated that the investigation into the AZAL plane crash in Aqtau is entering its final stages, Orda.kz reports.
He explained that the work is moving forward in two areas — criminal and technical. The Prosecutor General's Office is responsible for the criminal investigation, is conducting procedural work, and remains in regular contact with Russian investigators.
Bozumbayev noted that "there is progress there as well," adding that statements from leaders of neighboring countries reflect this.
The technical investigation is being carried out by the Ministry of Transport.
We're currently awaiting final approval from the licensors or owners of the technologies, aeronautical instruments, and so on. And, in principle, we're ready to finalize the Ministry of Transport. Perhaps this year or early next year. As for that part of the Prosecutor General's Office, they're in close contact. There's progress there, too; you've seen the various statements from leaders of neighboring states,
Bozumbayev said in the Majilis.
He expects both the technical and criminal investigations to be completed in 2026.
An AZAL plane crashed near Aqtau Airport in September 2024. The crew members were killed, and the incident received international attention. Kazakhstan is conducting the investigation jointly with Russian and Azerbaijani experts.
