Samruk-Kazyna Chair Nurlan Zhakupov has addressed the potential privatization of oil refineries, in which the state holding has a partial stake through KazMunayGas (KMG), Orda.kz reports.
Zhakupov specifically mentioned the Shymkent refinery:
The Shymkent oil refinery is not included in the privatization list because 50% is owned by KMG, and the other 50% belongs to the Chinese CNPC. So, there’s no discussion about privatizing it, he stated.
The final selection of enterprises for privatization is still in progress, and Zhakupov hinted that the approach used for the Shymkent refinery could be applied to other oil refineries.
We are still working on refining the list. Once concrete decisions are made, we will announce them,he added.
