Kazakhstan has temporarily restricted meat imports from several Russian regions bordering the country to prevent dangerous animal diseases from entering Kazakhstan, Orda.kz reports.
Kazbek Tashimov, head of the Committee for Veterinary Control and Supervision, announced the measures at a government briefing.
He said that the committee continuously monitors the situation with regard to animal diseases (epizootics) in neighboring countries and imposes restrictions when risks are identified.
«We regularly monitor the animal disease situation in adjacent territories and take preventive measures. The situation in Kazakhstan is currently stable, and we have taken steps to maintain it. Risks are periodically detected in neighbouring countries, so this is a temporary measure,» Tashimov said.
The restrictions will be lifted once the epizootic situation stabilizes. No timeline has been announced.
