According to the latest report published by the World Bank Group together with WHO, UNICEF and the UN Inter-agency Group for Child Mortality Estimation, the neonatal mortality rate in Kazakhstan — deaths in the first 28 days of life — stood at 3.9 per 1,000 live births, Orda.kz reports.
According to the report, this was the lowest figure in Central Asia at the end of 2025.
Today in Kazakhstan, babies weighing 500 grams or more are successfully cared for both in republican centers and in regional perinatal centers. Thanks to the introduction of modern perinatal technologies and the high professionalism of our specialists, the survival rate of such children has quadrupled. This is one of the best indicators in Central Asia. Compared with developed countries, Kazakhstan has already almost reached the level of the United States, where this figure is 3.7. the Health Ministry said.
Every year, about 20,000–22,000 premature babies are born in Kazakhstan, or around 5% of the total number of births.
According to the data provided:
- infant mortality has decreased 1.5-fold over the past 10 years;
- neonatal mortality has halved;
- the rate has now reached a historic low of 3.1 per 1,000 live births.
