Kazakhstan Reaffirms Commitment to Peaceful Nuclear Energy at IAEA Conference
Kazakhstan confirmed its course toward developing peaceful nuclear energy at the 69th session of the IAEA General Conference, led by Atomic Energy Agency Chair Almasadam Satkaliyev, Orda.kz reports.
Satkaliyev highlighted the country’s 30-year track record in responsible nuclear policy — from closing the Semipalatinsk test site and renouncing its arsenal to initiating the International Day Against Nuclear Tests.
He recalled the country’s first referendum on building a nuclear power plant.
Nuclear energy is not only a reliable source of energy, but also a strategic tool in the fight against climate change. Kazakhstan has set itself the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, and nuclear energy will play a key role in this transition, Satkaliyev said.

Plans include a nuclear power plant, applications in medicine and industry, safe waste management, and specialist training. Kazakhstan also remains active in global nuclear safety, hosting the IAEA’s Low Enriched Uranium Bank and contributing to projects like ITER.
"Kazakhstan builds its nuclear policy based on international IAEA standards… Peaceful atom is part of our national future and our contribution to the common future of humanity," he concluded.
