President Toqayev announced the initiative during a meeting with the head of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Orda.kz reports.
Kazakhstan is preparing to expand its international air network, with new direct flights planned to New York, Tokyo, and Singapore. President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev shared the news during talks with ICAO President Salvatore Sciacchitano.
According to Toqayev, Kazakhstan currently has direct air links with more than 30 countries.
Since last year, Kazakhstan has maintained a permanent mission to ICAO in Montreal. In 2024, new terminals opened in Almaty, Shymkent, and Qyzylorda. Almaty Airport’s capacity has increased sixfold — from 2.5 to 14 million passengers per year, the President noted.
Toqayev also highlighted the importance of signing a master plan for the development of civil aviation, which will serve as the foundation for the country’s long-term aviation strategy. The ICAO chief praised Kazakhstan’s progress in the sector, noting its strong institutional framework, growth, and sustainability.
Earlier, we reported that in 2025, Kazakhstani and foreign airlines had already launched dozens of new routes, ranging from Munich and Budapest to Shanghai, Da Nang, and Cairo.
Authorities expect that growing competition will lead to lower fares and a wider range of options for passengers.
