Authorities are growing increasingly concerned about the number of Kazakhstanis who could lose their jobs due to the rapid development of artificial intelligence, Orda.kz reports.
President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev announced that the country may establish a specialized research university focused on AI at the first meeting of the Council for the Development of Artificial Intelligence.
The educational institution should be granted special status. It is also important to engage the world's best universities as partners in this work. I instruct the government to prepare specific proposals by the end of the year. The main goal is to train qualified specialists who will implement artificial intelligence technologies in all sectors of the economy,
the head of state noted.
Toqayev added that neural networks are already being used in the education sector. AI can generate assignments, tests, and check answers for teachers.
This makes teachers' jobs easier, allowing them to focus on mentoring. However, it's important to remember: no technology can replace empathy. The human connection between teacher and student must remain the foundation of education. Therefore, when introducing AI into the educational process, the government should be guided by the principle of maximizing the reduction of routine workload,
the president added.
Recently, authorities projected that more than two million Kazakhstanis could lose their jobs due to AI.
Toqayev said artificial intelligence should also be used to prevent that outcome.
Many professions will gradually be replaced by automated systems. This is a critical issue. If it is not addressed, the risks of social consequences will increase, such as rising unemployment, declining quality of life, and increased inequality. However, AI can also contribute to solving this problem. Its enormous potential should be harnessed to create new jobs and strengthen human capital. I am instructing the launch of a national online AI-powered platform to retrain displaced workers for future professions.
Toqayev also clarified the purpose of the newly created Ministry of Artificial Intelligence.
The agency was tasked with making Kazakhstan a digital state. He concluded that the use of this technology affects competitiveness and sovereignty.
