Kazakhstan has passed a law on artificial intelligence that regulates liability for the creation of deepfakes, Orda.kz reports.
This was stated by Deputy Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Dmitry Mun, who commented on criticism from the tech industry that the document was overly restrictive.
The law wasn't meant to regulate more, but rather to facilitate the development of AI technologies. The basic principles have been laid out, but we will, of course, regulate the risks we already see,
Mun noted.
The law also introduces administrative liability for deepfakes.
There will be liability for deepfakes. We're generally writing relevant provisions in the AI law that stipulate that if you sell any products powered by artificial intelligence, your consumers must understand that they're being spoken to by an AI. There will be corresponding penalties and regulations related to administrative liability,
Mun said in the Majilis.
