Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev links the decline in oil production in Kazakhstan to repairs at large fields, Orda.kz reports.

In January-November 2024, the volume of oil and condensate production amounted to 80.5 million tons, or 1.7 million tons less than in the same period last year.

Including large oil and gas companies such as Tengiz and Kashagan. The Karachaganak project indicator did not decrease and amounted to 11.1 million tons (11 million tons in 2023).

The decrease in production compared to last year was affected by major repairs at large fields in 2024: at Tengiz, in connection with the planned launch of the future expansion project, repairs were carried out in May and August lasting a total of 50 days. At Kashagan, repairs were carried out to replace the slug catcher with a complete shutdown for 21 days, said Almasadam Satkaliyev at a government session.

Unscheduled shutdowns at Karachaganak, restrictions on gas intake at the Orenburg Gas Processing Plant, and shutdowns of the CPC for scheduled maintenance work influenced production as well.

Repair work at the second-generation plant at the Tengiz field due to an internal steam leak into the process flow from October 26, 2024, was another factor.

By the end of 2024, oil production is expected to reach 87.8 million tons.

The failure to achieve the planned production target affected oil exports. Thus, during the reporting period, 63.2 million tons of oil were exported, or 98.3% of the same period last year (64.3 million tons. — editor's note), the Minister added.
