Kazakhstan may raise the minimum wage starting in 2026, Minister of Labor and Social Protection Svetlana Zhakupova said, Orda.kz reports.
Research is currently underway to determine the appropriate amount. Zhakupova explained that labor productivity and regional wage levels will be factored into the calculations.
In terms of ensuring accurate indicators of labor productivity, median wages across regions and industries. And all of them will form the basis for calculating the minimum wage, she told journalists at a joint session of parliament.
The specific figure will be announced once the studies are completed.
“By the end of this year, in order to increase the minimum wage from January 1 of next year,” she added.
Earlier, MP Askhat Rakhimzhanov called for a revision of Kazakhstan’s social benchmarks — including the minimum wage, subsistence minimum, and consumer basket — to reflect basic living standards rather than minimum needs.
