Kazakhstan: Military Reform Projects Announced

Prosecutor General Berik Asylov announced two projects to reform the army of Kazakhstan. Cameras will appear in barracks, servicemen will have body cameras, and conscripts will be given access to commission protocols, Orda.kz reports.
Prosecutor General Berik Asylov announced the launch of two projects aimed at improving the safety of military personnel. According to him, the army should be based on the principles of dignity, discipline, and justice, and protecting the lives of soldiers should become a priority for command at all levels.
“Order in the army begins with respect for the individual,” Asylov wrote on the X social network, quoting President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev.
He stressed that concern for preserving the lives and health of military personnel should be demonstrated not in words, but in deeds.
The Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan will launch the projects "Law and Order in the Army" and "Digital Prevention." They plan to introduce modern video surveillance systems, and commanders and soldiers on combat duty and guard duty will be provided with body cameras, allowing recording in real time.
Additionally, they will expand the digital service on the armia.kz website, where an online consultant has already started operating, and introduce new communication channels for conscripts.
According to the Prosecutor General, every soldier should know where to turn if need be.
Special attention will be paid to the draft and medical commissions. The department wants to oblige them to conduct audio and video recording of all meetings with subsequent digitalization and remote access for the conscripts themselves.
This will help prevent the conscription of young people with contraindications to service and make the process as transparent as possible.
In the fall and winter of 2024 alone, the press and social networks reported more than ten incidents in Kazakhstan's army.
Meanwhile, on June 8, President Toqayev replaced the Minister of Defense. Instead of Ruslan Zhaqsylyqov, who had held the post since January 2022, the department is now headed by Dauren Kosanov.
