Kazakhstan may soon see its first production facility for water-saving technologies, Orda.kz reports.
Turkish investors are considering building a plant in the Qyzylorda region to manufacture drip and sprinkler irrigation systems. The parties are currently discussing the project’s scale, timeline, and implementation details.
Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov emphasized that such systems are particularly important for the region, which suffers from water shortages. The government has already increased subsidies for farmers using modern irrigation methods.
Launching production in Kazakhstan will make equipment more affordable and help accelerate the transition of farmers to more efficient and economical irrigation methods,
he said.
We previously reported that the Shardara reservoir, which supplies water to Turkistan and Qyzylorda regions, is on the verge of depletion due to reduced inflows, water overuse from excessive rice cultivation, and management errors.
