Kazakhstan may start supplying uranium to Finland, Orda.kz reports.
The announcement was made by Almassadam Satkaliyev, head of the Atomic Energy Agency, in the corridors of Akorda. According to him, this was one of the topics discussed by President Qasym-Jomart Toqayev and Finnish President Alexander Stubb during their meeting on October 28 in Astana.
Discussions are also underway regarding the possibility of supplying Kazakh uranium to buyers and nuclear power plants in Finland. This is the purpose of the documents being signed today with our Finnish colleagues. Kazakhstan has always been interested in expanding its international markets, and we consistently invite our partners to consider purchasing Kazakh uranium. We have made such proposals before, and they have shown serious interest. This visit provides a good opportunity to hold practical negotiations on the volumes and possibilities of such supplies, Satkaliyev said.
Earlier today, Aqorda hosted the official welcoming ceremony for the President of Finland. This marks Alexander Stubb’s first official visit to Kazakhstan as President of Finland.
The two heads of state last met on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
