Foreign IT specialists can now obtain a Kazakh residence permit without setting foot in the country — but only under the new “digital nomad” programs, Orda.kz reports.
Minister of Digital Development Zhaslan Madiyev presented two initiatives: the Digital Nomad Residency and the Digital Nomad Visa. The first allows foreigners to get a residence permit entirely online — no travel, no physical paperwork.
Previously, applicants had to arrive in person, get an IIN and electronic signature (EDS -Ed.), and provide income proof. Now, the process is fully remote,
Madiyev said during a cabinet meeting.
Applications can be submitted through the platforms astanahub.com and egov.kz. IIN and EDS can be issued via Kazakhstan's diplomatic missions, and proof of income is no longer required.
The second program is a one-year digital nomad visa — the first of its kind to legalize remote work in Kazakhstan for foreign tech workers. It also opens a path to a residence permit.
To date, 204 applications have been submitted.
