Rail transport between Kazakhstan and Georgia has increased by almost 70%, Orda.kz reports.
Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov held talks with Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili. The discussions focused on strengthening trade and economic relations, expanding transport infrastructure, and advancing joint projects along the Trans-Caspian International Route (TCIR).
According to official data, trade turnover between the two countries reached $75.2 million in the first five months of 2025, a 35.7% increase compared to the same period last year. Rail transportation rose by 67%, surpassing 159.5 thousand tons.
A key development was the launch of Kazakhstan’s container terminal at the port of Poti, with a capacity of 120,000 TEU per year. The facility, built by PTC Holding, is Kazakhstan's first logistics terminal in Georgia.
Bektenov highlighted the formation of a cross-regional logistics chain linking East Asia and Europe. The two sides also discussed expanding the Batumi oil terminal and port, and increasing exports of Kazakhstan's goods — including grain, flour, meat, dairy, and confectionery products.
Georgia expressed interest not only in logistics but also in tourism, emphasizing the importance of sustainable economic development.
Both parties confirmed their commitment to continued cooperation under the Intergovernmental Commission and to implementing the agreements reached.
